DENHAWKEN
School of Denhawken, circa 1950
Terry Dibrell found some photos in some of the things that were the property of his Aunt Laurene Luker (all the youngsters in Stockdale Texas knew her as "Aunt Rene".) These photos are of kids at the School in Denhawken before it was shut down and all the kids were moved to Stockdale ISD. Terry knew a few of the kids and it appears to him that these photos were taken about 1950. Talk of Wilson County TX Historic Towns needs some help in identifying these young Denhawken students!
Denhawken Community Hall
Denhawken Community Hall was the school house before they used it as the community hall. Denhawken, Tx.
Denhawken, at the junction of State Highway 119 and Farm Road 1347, fourteen miles east of Floresville in eastern Wilson County Texas, was settled by German farmers between 1895 and 1898, when the San Antonio and Gulf Railroad was built to the area. By the mid-1930s the
community had two stores and two mills.
